De blower genereert een verticaal laminair luchtstroompatroon: de lucht uit de kamer stroomt door het filter en wordt in de behuizing geblazen. Dit voorkomt dat extern aanwezig DNA of RNA het betreffende DNA- of RNA-monster vervuild. De lucht wordt aan de voorzijde naar de gebruiker uitgeblazen om besmetting van de gebruiker te voorkomen, zelfs wanneer de handen van de gebruiker in de behuizing zijn. Een door een timer bestuurde UV-lamp wordt gebruikt om het werkoppervlak met UV-stralen te de-contamineren tussen twee opeenvolgende PCR-experimenten teneinde kruisbesmetting te voorkomen.<\/p>\n<p>Onze gebruikte LAF-kast, Captair Biocap, wordt voor een zacht prijsje aangeboden. Reden is dat de ramen van de kast gebarsten zijn, wat een duidelijk nadeel is. Daarbij werkt de timer van de UV-lamp niet goed.
